For a little over a year now Nico Di Mattia has been producing some time lapsed videos of his artwork in Photoshop. These “speed” paintings are a lot of fun to watch (they take on average about 5 hours from what I can tell, which is fast but I know some artist who would argue they don’t meet the speed painting criteria, but I’m not sure if he still has that much detail posted about them). Di Mattia always seems to find just the right music to fit the subject matter of his pieces, and it is really interesting to watch a few lines take shape and form.
One of my favorite things about these videos is the subtle detail changes he makes once a piece is near completion. For instance, a nose that looked just fine to me will be honed and reshaped ever so slightly but the end product always makes me say, “O yeah that does look better now.”
